Holistic Ranking Report
The Holistic Ranking report in Osiris
This report is designed to allow you (and us) to assess how you're doing, holistically. Targeting keywords is sort of like a casino game (except you're the house, and you win more than you lose). So you can't conclude too much from winning or losing a few hands. But you can conclude a lot about your site's performance against expectations as a whole.
This report is designed to facilitate that. It's a chart showing your URLs, their keywords, and performance against expectations, and then a pie-graph of how many fit into each categories. Caetegories include:
Over-performer: the URL beats what our model would project.
Expected performer: the URL performs about where our model would expect.
Reasonable performer: the URL is doing reasonably well, if not quite where we would expect.
Under-performer: the URL is underperforming.
Too New: you've created or modified the URL too recently to draw conclusions.
Like the Refresh Candidates report, this has a slider where you can decide "too new" for yourself. We default to 6 months.
Something critical to understand about this report is that about the best we ever see on a site is 30% underperformers (meaning, most sites have way more than 30% underperformers). The reason for this is fairly simple: to sustain performance against competitors, you'd ideally be updating all of the URLs on your site a couple of times per year, and absolutely no one ever actually does that or has time to do it. So competitors target your keywords, cross your moat, and drive you into underperformance. It's expected — don't panic. We'll help you interpret what you see here.
